National Certificate in ECE Level 5:

ICL offers the Level 5 National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care.  This provides an introduction to ECE, an area of great growth in NZ and the rest of the world.  There is a serious shortage of ECE workers in NZ and most of our graduates gain employment quickly.  The National Certificate in ECE is ideal for a student who wants to work in NZ with children.  The two practicums (paid) in the course give students valuable work experience which helps in the application for a job.  Graduates mostly gain a full-time job and continue to study part time towards a level 7 diploma or degree

  • Course consists of 28 unit standards
  • Entry with IELTS 5.5 or equivalent in ICL Placement Test
  • Duration of 1 academic year, or 36 weeks
  • Start dates every 2 months
  • Cost $17,910 including enrolment fee and coursebooks

The National Certificate belongs to the New Zealand government and was designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge to enable them to work in New Zealand childcare centres.  The National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care qualifies the holder for 55 points in applying for NZ Permanent Residence.  It also gives credit of up to a year towards the Diploma in ECE or Bachelor of Education degree delivered in a range of NZ and international tertiary institutions.

Recent government funding initiatives in the pre-school sector means that there is a high demand for early childhood practitioners in New Zealand.  ICL’s current ECE pass rate is 95%.  The great majority of graduates find employment within a month of graduation.  Of the alumni we are still in contact with, 66% have found a permanent position and a further 11% a temporary position.
