Course Overview
The Diploma of Information Systems (DIS) Level 5 is an introduction to the applications of computer science within a business environment. It covers basic and intermediate programming in Java combined with the core elements of business management. It is an eight-month programme with entry from High School graduation and academic IELTS 5.5 overall. This programme is ideal for students who wish to combine business and IT and consists of two 16-week trimesters, each with four papers (total of eight papers). It has a pathway onto the BCIS degree at AUT University with a semester’s credit. The DIS was first approved by NZQA in 2002 and taught initially by ACG Business School, which was acquired by ICL in 2007 and renamed ICL Business School. Previously there were three entry levels: Standard, Accelerated and Year One.

Graduate Outcomes
Students will gain practical skills and knowledge that can be used in the workplace and develop academic skills in order to pursue further studies. Students will be able to cross credit to gain entry into University in New Zealand.
You must meet the following entry requirements
- NZ – 42 credits at Level 3, 14 credits in Level 1 or higher Maths, 4 credits in each of Level 2 or higher Reading and Writing English
- International Baccalaureate – 24
- Cambridge A Levels/STPM – CC
- Or equivalent international high school graduation certificate
- Students who do not meet these criteria but have achieved three NZDipBus results of Grade B or better, or six NZDipBus results of Grade C or better qualify for Year One entry
- IELTS 5.5 Overall (minimum 5.0 in all bands) or equivalent in the ICL Proficiency Test, or other equivalent recognized by NZQA
